Money
The Moroccan dirham (MAD) can only be bought in Morocco. Withdraw cash at bank ATMs; cards are accepted in hotels and larger restaurants, but souks and taxis are cash only.
Tipping
10% in restaurants, 10–20 MAD for small services, and 100–200 MAD per day for a guide or driver is appreciated.
What to wear
Light, covering clothes are respectful in the medinas (shoulders and knees covered). Bring a warm layer for desert and mountain nights.
Getting around
Agree taxi prices before getting in. For airports and day trips, a private transfer is often simpler.
Haggling
Expected in the souks. Start around half of the first price and stay friendly.
Language
Darija (Moroccan Arabic) and Amazigh are spoken; French is widely used, and English is common in tourist areas.
